Jungkook of boy band BTS sold more than 2 million copies of his first solo album "Golden" just on the day of its release on Friday, the highest ever for a K-pop soloist, his agency BigHit Music said Saturday.
Jungkook sold 2,147,389 copies of "Golden" on Friday, of which It took him just three hours to surpass 1 million copies and five hours to hit 2 million, according to his agency.
This is also the first time for a K-pop soloist to sell more than 2 million albums in just a day.
Jungkook has broken his bandmate V's record of highest-selling first-week K-pop solo album sales V had set earlier this year with his first solo album "Layover." V sold 2,101,974 copies of "Layover" within the first week of release in September.
"Golden" topped the iTunes Top Album charts in 77 regions around the world, including Britain, Germany, France and Canada, as of Saturday 9 a.m. The lead track, "Standing Next to You," topped the iTunes Top Song chart in 71 regions around the world.
The music video for "Standing Next to You" surpassed 10 million views on YouTube within 18 hours of release on Friday afternoon.
"Golden" was released Friday as the BTS member's first official solo album that contains the "golden moments of Jungkook," according to his agency BigHit Music. Eleven songs are included in the compilation, including lead track "Standing Next to You" and dance tracks "Seven" and "3D" that stormed charts worldwide earlier this year.
On Tuesday, his solo debut track "Seven" became the fastest song to reach 1 billion streams on the global music streaming service Spotify just 108 days after its release on July 14.
