The second season of "Sweet Home," a Netflix original zombie series, will be released on Dec. 1, three years after its successful debut in 2020.
"Sweet Home" is a Korean apocalyptic horror series starring Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook and Lee Si-young.
Based on the Naver webtoon of the same name by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan, which recorded over 1.2 billion views worldwide, the first season of the series was released on Dec. 18, 2020.
Directed by Lee Eung-bok, the director of the megahit series "Descendants of the Sun" (2016), "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God" (2016–17) and "Mr. Sunshine" (2018), the apocalyptic series revolves around an isolated teen Cha Hyun-soo (Song Kang), whose family died in a car accident.
It was the first Korean Netflix original series to reach the top 3 in Netflix's daily streaming chart in the United States, achieving international acclaim, according to FlixPatrol, a streaming data aggregator, in December 2021.
For the unique storyline of "Sweet Home" season 2, which diverges from the original webtoon, director Lee sought advice from the original author Kim Carnby, according to Netflix.
"It's a full-fledged post-apocalyptic tale," the director said in a press release. "While season 1 focused on the confined horror within the 'Green Home,' season 2 has expanded to broader settings like plazas, introducing a plethora of new characters and monsters,"
The series won numerous awards, including the Asian Academy Creative Awards in December 2021 and the Asia Contents Awards in October 2021.
Netflix said previously that season 3 of the series is also in production.
