South Korean medical AI startup Lunit Inc. reached a new milestone as it was recognized as an Associate Partner by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

This marks the first time a Korean company that is not a large one has been tapped as an associate partner at the event. Lunit is also the first healthcare AI company to be tapped for the role.

“Davos Forum was the first to make the offer, and now we have a permanent associate membership rather than the traditional one-year membership,” Lunit CEO Brandon Suh told Maeil Business Newspaper on Tuesday.

The promotion to Associate Partner at the WEF provides Lunit with the opportunity to strengthen its partnerships with global pharmaceutical and medical device industry CEOs, as well as government officials and health ministers from various countries.

“With this inner circle qualification, we expect to achieve visible partnership results from the beginning of 2024. We anticipate concluding commercial agreements from ongoing research collaborations with more than 20 global big pharma companies next year,” Suh said.

He also revealed that Lunit is actively involved in pilot projects to apply AI for the first time in cancer screening programs in countries including Australia and Saudi Arabia.
