The Golden Disc Awards will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Jan. 6 next year, the organization committee said Tuesday.
Now in its 38th edition, the annual Golden Disc Awards will be held at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), which can house up to 80,000 audience members at once. Mandiri, the sponsor, is the largest commercial bank in Indonesia.
This is the fifth time for the music awards ceremony to be held outside of Korea, following the 26th edition in Japan, 27th in Malaysia, 29th in China and 37th in Thailand.
"The global impact of K-pop is increasingly expanding, with continuous requests from Asian fans eager to engage with K-pop artists,” the organizing committee said in a press release. “In light of this trend, and to foster a platform where both domestic and international music fans can connect through K-pop, we've chosen to host the event in Jakarta."
The Golden Disc Awards, hosted by JoongAng Group, began in 1986 and recognizes and honors popular music that has garnered significant attention over the past year.
From the 21st edition, to reflect the shift in music consumption patterns from physical albums to digital tracks, the awards have been divided into two separate categories: digital releases and physical albums.
The nominees for each category for the upcoming event will be unveiled on Dec. 4 through the official website and on its social media platforms.
