KT, a leading telecommunications provider, signed a memorandum of understanding with Indonesia's state-owned telecom company, Telkom Indonesia, to build the network infrastructure for the country's new capital Nusantara.

KT will participate in the new capital project to transform Nusantara into a "smart city," offering its expertise in cyber security and information technologies such as quantum cryptography, a cutting-edge technology used to create secure communication channels immune to hacking.

The two companies will form a task force to establish new data centers and expand business in transportation, energy and AI.

"Security and consistent technical expertise are key pillars to build a smart city, and in that matter the technology that KT possesses has high credibility and efficiency," Rizal Akbar, vice president of Telkom Indonesia, said in a statement.

KT's Moon Sung-uk, the head of global business, promised to "provide services which offer a consolidated solution to solve the new capital's problems by analyzing scattered city data."
