Demand for electric sports cars is growing sharply in South Korea as the overall industry shifts focus towards electrification.

According to industry sources and the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association on Monday, the number of newly registered high-performance electric sports models with 500 horsepower or more, including offerings from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and Porsche, reached 1,758 units in Korea in the first 9 months of the year.

The figure marks a sharp increase from 2020, when only 48 units of a single model were sold in the sector.

In 2021, sales grew to 1,361 units, and in 2022, they further expanded to 1,577 units. Sales are projected to exceed 2,000 units for the first time in Korea this year.
