Hyundai Mobis demonstrates future mobility with new tech

A demo car with Hyundai Mobis's “e-Corner System,” a new key technology from the automaker, can now be seen on the roads.

The system captivated viewers by demonstrating fluid future mobility movements, such as successfully parallel parking in a tight space by adjusting the wheel angle, and retreating from a dead end by making a 180-degree turn.

Hyundai Mobis showcased a demo video of its Ioniq 5 featuring the e-Corner System in Seosan, South Chungcheong.

In the clip, the demo car equipped with e-Corner System drove on the test grounds and on the public road, showcasing “crab walking,” which allows all four wheels to turn 90 degrees to perform parallel movements. It enables anyone to parallel park in narrow spaces.

The successful real-world road test enhanced the system's reliability, moving it beyond mere future tech.

The system also featured its “zero turn,” which rotates the front wheels inward while the rear wheels turn outward to perform a 360-degree idle turn. This feature allows the driver to easily turn the vehicle with minimum movement, even in a cramped space.

The system is considered a key mobility technology for electrification and autonomous driving. This innovative technology has never before been mass-produced anywhere in the world.

Hyundai Mobis is going one step further than its global competition, drawing on its capability of developing a wide array of essential components in house not only for steering and braking, but also connectivity and electrification, and converging them.
