A man who went to trial for stalking his ex-girlfriend, causing anxiety with notifications by transferring one won to her bank account more than a hundred times, was fined four million won.

According to legal sources on October 29, Judge Kim Jae-eun of Criminal Court 13 at the Seoul Southern District Court recently sentenced A, charged with violating the Act on Punishment of Crime of Stalking and attempted home invasion under the Criminal Act, to a fine of four million won. The judge also ordered A to complete a 40-hour stalking treatment program.

“Based on the details of the crime, the method, and the frequency, the victim must have felt considerable anxiety and fear,” the court said, adding that “The nature of the crime was not good because the defendant repeated the stalking behavior even after there was a decision for provisional measures.”

Last September, after B ended a one-year relationship with A, A transferred one won into his ex-girlfriend’s account 106 times. He also texted her messages, such as “I still love you,” “I really wanted to buy you a luxury bag,” and “Call me. I’ll be waiting,” when sending the money, prompting anxiety and fear in B, which eventually put him on trial.

In October that year, A also tried to enter B’s home by pressing the code on the electronic lock on her front door and by opening the window, so he was also charged with attempted home invasion.
