Boy band Seventeen will become the first K-pop act to give a speech and perform at the Unesco headquarters in Paris, France, the band’s agency Pledis Entertainment announced Friday.
“Seventeen will stand on the podium at the 13th Unesco Youth Forum, to be held at the Unesco Headquarters in Paris on Nov. 14,” Pledis Entertainment said in a press release. “Members will be assigned to a special session during the forum and will participate for about an hour, giving speeches and also performing.”
The Unesco Youth Forum is an event held in conjunction with the Unesco General Assembly every two years. Young representatives from each country share opinions and experiences and seek solutions to problems young people face through this forum.
This is the first time for a K-pop act to be assigned an entire session at a Unesco general-level event. The main hall where Seventeen will be speaking is the largest venue at the Unesco headquarters.
Seventeen plans to deliver the message that “the solidarity and education of young people will change the future of the planet,” according to Pledis Entertainment. Roles that young people can play for sustainable development, based on the band members’ individual experiences, will also be presented during the forum.
Seventeen officially debuted in 2015 with thirteen members: S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino. The boy band recently set a record by selling 4.67 million copies of its upcoming album “Seventeenth Heaven” in presales.
