The police have taken into custody the singer, G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong, 35, pictured) for allegedly taking drugs following their arrest of the actor, Lee Sun-kyun (48). The latest discovery of Kwon’s drug use is expected to send major ripples through the entertainment industry.

The metropolitan investigation unit of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency announced on October 25 that they booked Kwon for violating the Narcotics Control Act. The police said Kwon’s drug use was a separate incident from an earlier case against Lee. Reportedly, the police secured a statement on Kwon when questioning a female employee of an entertainment establishment following a search and seizure. A police representative acknowledged that they filed drug charges against Kwon and said, “We have not yet summoned him for questioning, nor have we conducted a reagent test, so we will have to investigate to identify the exact circumstances of his drug use.”

Regarding Kwon’s indictment, a YG Entertainment representative said, “It’s difficult to answer because our contract with G-Dragon terminated in June.”

Kwon, the leader of the band, Big Bang, was investigated by prosecutors in 2011 for smoking cannabis, but his indictment was suspended. At the time, Kwon’s agency, YG Entertainment, explained, “He attended a party during his tour in Japan and when a young Japanese man offered him a cigarette, he took two or three puffs to be polite.”

The police will conduct further investigations into the type of drugs Lee took and the number of times he took them and summon him soon. The police arrested Lee and two other people on October 21, A for taking psychotropic drugs and B, a female employee in her twenties who worked at the entertainment establishment with A.

Police are also investigating five other people, including a third-generation chaebol, an aspiring singer, and a TV personality-turned-songwriter. The addition of Kwon Wednesday brings the total number of people being investigated for alleged drug use by the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency to nine.
