Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, LG wireless TV named 2023’s best inventions

Samsung Electronics Co.‘s Galaxy Z Flip mobile phone and LG Electronics Inc.’s wireless TV have been named as 2023’s best new products by TIME magazine.

In this year’s Best Inventions list unveiled on Tuesday, the magazine featured the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the “consumer electronics” category. TIME selects new products and ideas each year that impact consumers’ daily lives and compiles an annual list of the best inventions.

Describing Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 as a “modern flip phone,” the magazine focused on its 3.4-inch external screen, known as the “Flex Window,” which allows users to conveniently check important notifications and customize it to their preferences.

Samsung’s Galaxy flagship smartphones have now been included in the IME’s Best Inventions of the Year for three consecutive years, following the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in 2021 and the Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022. The South Korean electronics giant also secured a spot on this year’s list with its “Less Microfiber Filter.”

The LG Signature OLED M was also recognized as the Best Invention in the consumer electronics category, being the only TV product among the 200 Best Inventions of the year. The wireless TV features only one cable for power and has “no inputs or outputs, unlike other TVs,” according to the magazine. All the cords for peripheral devices are integrated into the back of the TV in its TV Zero Connect Box.
