SK hynix’s LPDDR 5T found compatible with Qualcomm’s latest mobile platform

South Korean memory chipmaker SK hynix Inc. is commercializing its low-power (LP) double data rate (DDR) 5T, which implements the world’s fastest mobile dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) at 9.6 gigabits per second (Gbps).

SK hynix announced Wednesday that U.S. Qualcomm Inc. has verified LP DDR5T to be compatible with its latest mobile platform, Snapdragon 8 Gen3.

LP DDR is a DRAM standard used for mobile products such as smartphones and tablets and it can operate at low voltages. The latest standard is the seventh generation LP DDR5X.

LP DDR5T was first developed by SK hynix, and it is an upgrade from LP DDR5X before the eighth generation, LP DDR6, was officially released in the industry.

SK hynix has been conducting compatibility verification with its partner Qualcomm since it completed the development of LP DDR5T in January.

LP DDR5T and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 both performed well on a smartphone that combined the two, according to the company.

SK hynix plans to supply 16 gigabyte (GB) capacity packages that integrate LP DDR5T to its customers.
