SK hynix's latest mobile DRAM LPDDR5T has been verified for its compatibility with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform chipset, marking the commercialization of the world's fastest mobile DRAM chip.
The Korean chipmaker plans to strengthen its partnership with mobile semiconductor designer Qualcomm as it believes smartphones will play a major role in realizing AI technology in the future.
The LPDDR5T is able to process 9.6 gigabytes of data per second.
“With the validation process with Qualcomm Technologies, a leader in wireless telecommunication products and services, and other major mobile AP [Application Processor] providers successfully completed, SK hynix expects the LPDDR5T adoption to grow rapidly,” SK hynix said in a release Wednesday.
SK hynix plans to provide a 16-gigabyte capacity product by stacking up multiple LPDDR5T, which is equivalent to downloading 15 Full-HD movies within a second.
“Generative AI applications running on our new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 enables exciting new use cases by executing LLMs [large-language models] and LVMs [language vision models] on a device with minimal latency and at the lowest power,” said Ziad Asghar, Senior Vice President of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies.
“Our collaboration with SK hynix pairs the fastest mobile memory with our latest Snapdragon mobile platform and delivers amazing on-device, ultra-personalized AI experiences such as AI virtual assistants for smartphone users.”
