SK gas Co., an eco-friendly liquid petroleum gas (LPG) supplying unit of South Korea’s SK Group, said Tuesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the courier industry on Monday to build a logistics ecosystem for 1-ton LPG trucks.

SK gas and the courier industry will cooperate to build an eco-friendly logistics infrastructure and to enhance air quality through broader use of LPG trucks.

Under the partnership, SK gas will build a green logistics infrastructure by leveraging its nationwide gas charging stations and parcel terminals.

The company will support package delivery workers by offering them promotional incentives, such as cashable membership vouchers available at around 800 gas charging stations across the country.

SK gas will also help to accelerate a shift from conventional diesel trucks to LGP alternatives.

Compared with electric trucks, LPG trucks with a payload capacity of 1 ton are more efficient and reliable to drive even in harsh conditions, thanks to their shorter charging time and longer driving range on a single charge, according to the company.

“The partnership suggests our commitment to collaborating with the logistics industry to establish a beneficial partnership for couriers with 1-ton trucks,” said SK gas Chief Executive Officer Yoon Byung-seok.

Park Chan-bok, president of the Korea Integrated Logistics Association, a representative group of logistics industries, noted that the agreement will bring tangible advantages to couriers using LPG 1-ton trucks, contributing to an eco-friendly mobility ecosystem.
