DL E&C announced on Tuesday that it won a contract to build a TW biomass cogeneration power plant in Hwachi, Yeosu. The contract is valued at about 250 billion won ($18.6 million), with a targeted completion date set for late November 2026.

Under the contract, DL E&C will be responsible for the design, procurement of materials, construction, and commissioning of the plant. The power plant project is a partnership between LG Chem and GS EPS aimed at producing and supplying steam and electricity for LG Chem’s Hwachi plant in Yeosu.

The plant is designed to have a generation capacity of 25 megawatts per hour and can produce 225 tons of heat source per hour. It operates on a carbon-neutral energy generation system by using wood chips made from waste wood materials that would otherwise be incinerated or disposed of in landfills.

The carbon emission reduction effect of this plant is expected to reach 400,000 tons annually, significantly reducing the carbon footprint.

DL E&C has prior experience in constructing a biomass power plant in Poseung. In October alone. It secured contracts for two power plant projects totaling 6.5 trillion won, in October to date, bringing its total new plant contracts for the year to some 3.1 trillion won. This achievement increases the likelihood of meeting the plant sector’s annual contract target of 3.5 trillion won set at the beginning of 2023.
