South Korean flag carrier Korean Air Lines Co. held a “jubging” volunteer activity in the Han River Park area in Yeouido, Seoul, to commemorate the 5th anniversary of its joint venture with U.S. Delta Air Lines Inc. on the Pacific route, the company said on Monday.

Jubging is a portmanteau of the Korean word for “picking up” and the word “jogging,” referring to an environmental protection activity that involves collecting trash while walking or jogging.

Around 150 employees, including 120 from Korean Air and 30 from Delta Air, joined the activity.

“It was a meaningful time because we could protect the environment while strengthening our relationship with Delta Air Lines,” said a Korean Air employee.

A Delta Air employee also said that “it is heartwarming to see our partnership grow stronger, leading to more diverse community contributions.”

Korean Air and Delta Air established a joint venture in May 2018, allowing them to jointly conduct operational activities, such as setting airfares and scheduling, and share revenue and expenses.

The two carriers have since engaged in various joint community service activities, including building houses in Los Angeles and planting trees to prevent desertification in Mongolia.
