EcoSalt, a South Korean eco-friendly salt specialist company, said Sunday it is launching a premium salt brand that not only removes microplastics but also fine-tunes the magnesium content to match the qualities of ten-year-aged natural sea salt.

Founded in 2021, EcoSalt is a dedicated producer of eco-friendly salt. Leveraging patented techniques, the company has been crafting safe salt by eliminating microplastics, improving taste by removing bitterness-causing bitterns, and preserving essential natural minerals such as magnesium.

Edible sun-dried sea salt is produced by collecting surface seawater and drying it in its natural state. However, due to its seawater source, sea salt can inadvertently accumulate microplastics, which may unknowingly build up in the human body over time.

According to data, an average adult consumes about 5 grams of microplastics daily.

EcoSalt employs the Magnesium Micro-Plastic Free (MMPF) method to remove over 95 percent of microplastics from their sea salt and lower the magnesium content to 2.5 grams per kilogram.

This method has been praised for its superior functionality, ease of use, and economic feasibility compared to conventional technologies.

Furthermore, EcoSalt has reduced metal and plastic usage by around 45 percent in its products and utilizes eco-friendly packaging materials to cut greenhouse gas emissions by over 48 percent compared to conventional packaging.

In collaboration with academia and industry, EcoSalt has set its sights on developing technology to detect radioactivity in seawater and sea salt and to remove radioactive materials like cesium, plutonium, strontium, and iodine through specialized processes.
