South Korean discount chain Emart Inc. is offering Russian red king crabs at 5,980 won ($4.4) per 100 grams on Friday and Saturday, which is about 45 percent cheaper than the average selling price that stood at 10,980 won last month.

Red king crabs are regarded as the tastiest among all crab varieties. Emart has gone a step further by selecting the golden size crabs, weighing 1.5 kilograms or more for the special offer.

Emart has procured a substantial quantity of red king crabs, roughly around 4 tons, to accommodate the expected high demand during the event.

However, the retailer cautions about early sellouts due to the overwhelming consumer interest in the limited time offer.

The significant price reduction is attributed to a recent influx of Russian red king crabs into the Korean market.

Given the nature of king crabs being distributed live, quick stock turnover is essential. Wholesale prices for red king crabs in the local seafood market have plunged from about 110,000 won per kilogram in early September to 60,000 won~70,000 won.
