South Korean robot manufacturer DB Robotics Co. recently became the first Korean company to develop hybrid electric walkers for seniors with mobility difficulties due to knee pain and joint disorders. The 4-wheel walkers will be available in the market soon, the company said on Monday.

The walker’s four wheels are motorized to provide support for the elderly who need assistance getting around. Even on uphill roads or uneven surfaces on the ground, the walker’s electric motor ensures a smooth ride.

The walker features light-emitting diode (LED) lights to enhance visibility during the early morning, evening, or in dim areas, with the aim of reducing safety incidents such as falls.

The walker will be available in the entry-level and high-end models. While the entry-level model includes motorized 4-wheel motors, manual and electric operation capabilities, and speed control, the high-end one has more enhanced safety features, including an artificial intelligence (AI) speed limit or brakes on downhill roads.

“DB Robotics’ electric walkers stand out from expensive European alternatives with limited features,” DB Robotics chief executive officer Lee Bae said. The walkers’ motors ensure safety and durability but are offered at affordable prices, he added.
