South Korean mobile carrier LG Uplus Corp. is expected to make a foray into middle-mile logistics, which involves the delivery of goods from manufacturing facilities to fulfillment centers.

The market is facing intensifying competition among tech firms and mobile carriers, including KT Corp., T Map Mobility, and Kakao Mobility Corp.

LG Uplus said Monday that it will soon launch a middle-mile platform, which is designed to connect owners of goods with logistics suppliers.

“The middle mile in logistics has been a part that shows slow improvement in terms of digital transformation (DX),” said Lim Jang-hyuk, head of the new business unit at LG Uplus. “LG Uplus will make use of its DX capability to secure a significant share in the sector.”

LG Uplus aims to achieve more than 150 billion won ($110 million) in sales of the platform over the next three years.
