SK C&C completes proof of concept for digital carbon passport platform

SK C&C Co., an information and communication technology unit of South Korea’s SK Group, announced Wednesday that it has successfully completed a proof of concept (PoC) for its Digital Carbon Passport platform.

SK C&C stressed that the platform enables efficient data management for Scope 3 emissions, or carbon emissions generated from suppliers and the entire supply chain.

SK C&C has been developing the platform with Glassdome, a carbon emission management solution startup, since May 2023 and achieved optimal platform functionality via a two-month PoC with manufacturers under imminent pressure to adhere to carbon emission regulations, according to the company.

Carbon emission regulations are intensifying in Europe and other parts of the world, and Korean companies are also required to adhere to these regulatory measures.

Earlier in April, the European Union (EU) confirmed the implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which requires manufacturers that exceed the EU’s carbon emission threshold in the manufacturing of imported goods to purchase emission certificates.
