LG Innotek Co., an information technology component unit of South Korea’s LG Group, has embarked on a series of innovative hiring experiments, including skipping document screening and conducting interviews directly to attract top master’s and PhD-level tech talent.

The company recently held an event called OpTechCon at its headquarters in Magok, western Seoul, to recruit outstanding talent in the field of optical technology.

The event was participated by potential applicants from major university optical research labs nationwide. Some prospective LG Innotek candidates enjoyed the privilege of bypassing the traditional document screening process and proceeding directly to interviews on site.

In addition to focusing on recruiting local talent, LG Innotek is actively pursuing a global talent acquisition strategy.

In July and August, the company conducted its first-ever internship program targeting foreign exchange students residing in Korea, hailing from countries such as Vietnam, Mexico, and Japan.

LG Innotek plans to hire these students as regular employees if they receive positive evaluations during the internship and successfully pass the final interview.

LG Innotek’s overseas production subsidiaries have also taken steps to secure local R&D talent.

In June, LG Innotek Vietnam and Hanoi University of Science and Technology signed a memorandum of understanding on curriculum support and student recruitment.

“We will continue our diverse hiring innovation activities,” said Kim Heung-sik, vice president and chief human resource officer at LG Innotek.
