South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. is looking for a breakthrough in a currently bearish NAND flash memory market by continuously releasing next-generation products. The company’s strategy is to lead market transformation with its high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) by introducing a series of new products, including the 990 Pro Series consisting of consumer SSDs equipped with eighth generation V-NAND.

On Wednesday, Samsung Electronics announced the launch of the T9, an ultra-fast portable external SSD that can store a full high definition (HD) four-gigabyte movie in two seconds. An SSD is a NAND flash memory-based storage device that is faster, cooler, and less noisy than hard disk drives (HDDs).

The new product, which is about the size of a credit card, offers industry-leading sustained read and write speeds of up to 2,000 megabytes per second for a four-terabyte model, or nearly double the sustained read and write speed of T7, the previous generation product. It is available in three storage capacities-1TB, 2TB, and 4TB-with a warranty of up to five years.
