Korean diver Yi Jae-gyeong took bronze in the men’s 3-meter springboard final at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Tuesday, surpassing countryman and medal favorite Woo Ha-ram.
Yi scored 426.2 points in total at Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Aquatic Sports Arena in Hangzhou, China, while Woo finished fourth with 411.05.
Woo was one of the favorites to win gold, as he had already won bronze in the men’s 1-meter springboard and silver in the men’s synchronized 3-meter springboard at this year’s Asiad.
The 25-year-old also managed a fourth place finish in the men’s 3-meter springboard at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, the highest any Korean diver has ever finished in an Olympic event.
Wang Zongyuan of China topped the podium with 542.3 and countryman Zheng Jiuyuan took silver with 508.55.
Yi’s bronze medal raised Korea’s medal count in this year’s Asian Games diving to six, having won two silver and four bronze so far.
The diving schedule will wrap up on Wednesday.
