Korean divers added two bronze medals on Monday, finishing third in both the men’s and women’s 1-meter springboard contests at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Korea’s Woo Ha-ram took bronze in the men’s 1-meter springboard, coming behind China’s Wang Zongyuan and Peng Jianfeng, who snatched gold and silver, respectively. Woo scored 395.95 points, steadily behind Wang’s 459.50 and Peng’s 442.45.
Woo had been neck-and-neck with teammate Kim Yeong-taek, who ended with 342.55, knocking him out of third place after the third dive.
Earlier Monday, Korea’s Kim Su-ji took bronze in the women’s 1-meter springboard contest, knocking Malaysia off the podium with her final dive.
She finished behind Chinese divers Li Yajie and Lin Shan, who took gold and silver, respectively. Kim scored a total of 267.10 points across the five dives in the final, coming short of Li’s 317.55 and Lin’s 303.80.
Woo earlier won Korea a silver medal in the men’s synchronized 3-meter springboard and Kim Su-ji, a bronze, in the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard contest.
In the finals, athletes received points for each of the dives they completed. For men, that was six dives and for women, five.
Kim scored 54 points with inward somersaults, 55.9 in forward somersaults, 48.3 in back somersaults, 50.4 in reverse somersaults and 58.5 in reverse somersaults and twists — her best dive of the night.
Woo scored 63 points in reverse somersaults and twists, 66.3 with inward somersaults, 74.25 in forward somersaults, 57.6 in forward somersaults and twists, 68.8 in reverse somersaults and 66 in back somersaults to close out his final round.
Korea had won five diving medals — two silver and three bronze — at this year’s Asiad by the end of the competition on Monday.
The diving schedule at this year’s Asian Games wraps up on Wednesday.
