IMF expects revenue mobilization gains in Sri Lanka to fall short of expectations

epa10885859 Peter Breuer, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Senior Chief for Sri Lanka, speaks during a media briefing on the first review under the IMF's extended facility fund (EFF) arrangement at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 27 September 2023. According to an IMF statement, revenue mobilization gains in Sri Lanka improved relative to last year but are expected to fall short of initial projections by nearly 15 percent by year end. The statement added that Sri Lanka has made commendable progress in implementing difficult but much-needed reforms, and discussions will continue towards reaching a staff-level agreement in the near term. Last year, the executive board of the IMF approved a three-billion-dollar Extended Fund Facility (EFF) to support Sri Lanka's economic policies and reforms. EPA/CHAMILA KARUNARATHNE
