Starting next month, South Korean electric vehicle (EV) owners will be able to access EV chargers run by different operators with a single membership procedure, thanks to a nation-wide agreement reached between the government and charging station operators for a unified charging service.

If individuals are already members of companies participating in the agreement, no additional procedure is required to sign up.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Environment signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the service with 86 EV charging station operators at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul.

The MOU means that254,600 chargers from 86 operators will be available with a single membership starting in early October. Chargers from participating operators account for 99.8 percent of all chargers.
