Dunhuang City was a significant hub on the ancient Silk Road, facilitating trade and cultural interactions between China, Central Asia, and the Western regions. The western region of Gansu has a rich history of being home to many World Heritage Sites. Mingsha Mountain is an awe-inspiring desert landscape that can be found in the vicinity of Dunhuang City.The sand mountain's steep peaks and five-colored sands create an awe-inspiring landscape. Strong winds generate a resounding noise, hence its name, Echoing Sand. Nearby Crescent Lake, or 'sand well', has a crescent moon-like shape and is surrounded by sand dunes.
