Syrians protest in As-Suwayda and Daraa against al-Assad regime

Activists in As-Suwayda began protests since 20 August 2023 initially over increasing fuel prices and deteriorating economy. The protesters who took to the streets are chanting slogans calling for the overthrow of the regime, demanding the release of detainees and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 for the peace process in Syria. Protesters also gathered in the neighboring Daraa city, the first city that witnessed protests against Syrian President Bashar Assad at the beginning of the 2011 uprising. EPA/MOHAMAD SYRIA
