Key Pakistan-Afghanistan border crossing closed for second day after clashes

The primary border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan at Torkham has been closed for a second consecutive day on 07 September due to clashes between the two countries' security forces that occurred the previous day over the construction of an Afghan check-post. This crossing is responsible for about 65 percent of cross-border traffic and has been closed numerous times in the past due to bilateral tensions, often involving incidents of firing. It has been a constant point of contention between the two countries, as the Afghan government does not recognize the porous border and instead refers to it as the Durand Line, a name given by the British during the colonial era.
