GS E&C shows off hi-tech 'Smart Cottage' at IFA 2023

GS E&C showcased a modular home dubbed the "Smart Cottage," equipped with an energy-efficient ventilation system and home appliances at the IFA 2023 trade show in Berlin.

The product combines modular technology developed by GS E&C with LG Electronics' IoT-enabled home appliances, including the WashTower Compact, dishwasher, induction electric range and water purifier.

The Smart Cottage also incorporates GS E&C's subsidiary Danwood's steel-wood hybrid modular manufacturing technology, designed to meet Germany's Efficiency House 40 Plus energy efficiency standard. Additionally, it features LG Electronics' heat pump heating system, 4-kilowatt solar panels, and an ESS energy storage system.

Danwood, a Polish timber modular specialist, was acquired by GS E&C in 2020 and has a strong presence in the German market.

"It's truly remarkable that the Smart Cottage, a pioneering home appliance and space hybrid product blending GS E&C and LG Electronics' high-efficiency energy technologies, is making its debut in Germany, which happens to be Danwood's key market," said Huh Yoon-hong, President of GS E&C. "Both companies remain committed to working together to bring such innovative living solutions to Korea as well."

This year's IFA kicked off last Friday and will run through Sept. 5, with over 2,000 companies from 150 countries and over 180,000 buyers expected to participate in the world’s largest trade show.
