Soccer academy in Sana'a attracts neighborhood youths

A 26-year-old Yemeni soccer player, Hassan Al-Merhabi, founded in 2022 the Sport Academy for Soccer in Sana'a to teach and train the youths of his neighborhood the technical and tactical basic skills in playing soccer for three days a week, after a knee injury in 2020 kept him from playing the sports. The academy, with an enrollment of over 30 youths, charges a fee of between 3,000 and 5,000 Yemeni rial (between 5.66 and 9.43 euro) per person per month, depending on their families' ability to pay in a war-ravaged country experiencing a worsening economic crisis and high unemployment rate of Yemenis due the war which broke out in 2015. The trainees are aged between seven and 15 years and have a desire to reach the professional levels of soccer as matches are being played by youths and children in neighborhoods since more activities of national soccer clubs have been suspended in Yemen due to the prolonged war.
