Guatemalan President-elect faces hurdles amid suspension of his Seed Movement party

Electoral registry officials provisionally suspended the Seed Movement on 28 August, the same day the country's Supreme Electoral Tribunal confirmed his victory in the presidential election. On 30 August, in a new hurdle in the tranfer of power process, Guatemala's Congress refused to recognize the Seed Movement caucus lawmakers due to the temporary party suspension. The Organization of American States (OAS) on 31 August denounced the decision of the Guatemalan Congress not to recognize the Seed Movement and expressed concern about the possible definitive suspension of the party.
