New KT leader vows to improve corporate value

Kim Young-seop, the newly appointed head of KT Corp. after a long management vacuum, has promised to do his best to increase the company’s value.

The 12th largest conglomerate in South Korea embarked on a fresh journey on Wednesday as shareholders officially named him as the new chief executive officer. His appointment, which ended a nine-month leadership vacancy, received resounding support, with over 60 percent votes during an extraordinary meeting of shareholders.

“I am fully committed to laying the foundation for sustainable growth through advanced network infrastructure and technology, with a strong emphasis on enhancing corporate value,” Kim said after the appointment was confirmed.

Born in 1959, Kim earned his degree in Business Administration from Korea University. He joined Lucky Goldstar Trading Corp (formerly LG Electronics Co.) in 1984, and his professional journey within the LG group spans nearly four decades.

Kim, known as a financial expert, played a pivotal role in improving corporate governance and streamlining financial structures while serving as the CEO of LG CNS Co. His proficiency extends to the information and communication technology (ICT) domain, highlighted by his tenure as the chief financial officer of LG Uplus Corp.

Kim is expected to prioritize business stabilization by addressing internal challenges and devising a comprehensive growth strategy. He faces a significant test in ensuring robust governance and structural enhancement amid the ongoing investigations by the prosecution into alleged misconduct involving the company’s former executives.

Market analysts anticipate that executive appointments and a reshuffling of the organizational structure will follow in the coming weeks and months.

Kim is likely to unveil his comprehensive management and growth strategy during his keynote address at Mobile 360 APAC event, hosted by the GSM Association at the Westin Josun Seoul from September 7 to 8.
