A slew of South Korea’s major medical centers and law firms will join the nation’s artificial intelligence initiative to provide quality data for feeding generative AI models.

Asan Medical Center, Samsung Medical Center, Korea University Medicine, Catholic University hospitals Kyungpook National University Hospital, and Chungnam National University Hospital are on the list as data builders for AI training supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Intelligence and Information Society Agency (NIA), according to sources on Wednesday.

A consortium of dental hospitals, including Seoul National University Dental Hospital, set a goal of building 100,000 data sets within this year to train AI models to diagnose cavities by identifying intraoral clinical photos.

Another consortium led by Chungnam National University Hospital will build facial image data such as eye blinks, head tilts, and lip tremors that will be used to train AI models for diagnosing mental health conditions in the elderly, including dementia.

Participation in data construction for generative AI has been surging, encompassing medical imagery, legal documents, and multimodal data. In the legal field, a consortium of law firms, including Yulchon LLC, will develop corpus data for court documents. Saltlux Inc., an AI data firm, will build speech-based video summarization data.
