Korean beauty device makers see rise in overseas sales on growing demand

Korean beauty tech company APR said on Tuesday that its beauty device brand Medicube Age-R achieved sales of 100,000 units overseas in the first half of this year, accounting for about 80 percent of last year’s entire sales.
Following the sale of 600,000 beauty devices last year, APR sold 500,000 units at home and abroad in the first half of this year, with 25 to 30 percent of those sales coming from overseas, the company said.
As a result, overseas sales in the first half of this year exceeded 80 billion won ($60.67 million), up by more than 20 percent from the same period last year.
“The main contributor to the increase in overseas sales is the U.S., which has the largest beauty market in the world. Sales in the U.S. expanded by more than 80 percent from the same period last year,” said an official from APR. “Although the sales volume was second only to Japan, it was number one in terms of booster healer products, which were very popular.”
Booster healers are devices that help basic skincare ingredients absorb deeper into the skin for a radiant glow. Recently, pop star Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber, certified her use of booster healer.
Dualsonic, a beauty device made by JION MEDITECH Co., is also capitalizing on the popularity of K-beauty. The device is exported to more than 30 countries including the U.S., China, France, and Spain.
Equipped with the first patent-certified dual-layer HIFU technology in Korea, Dualsonic provides elasticity to the skin by focusing ultrasound on two layers of the skin.
LUKINS, a beauty device presented by MOSTX, is also looking to expand overseas.
