Samsung SDS to unveil generative AI service model in September

Samsung SDS Co., the information technology (IT) service unit of South Korea’s Samsung Group, will unveil a generative artificial intelligence (AI) service model in September, following the presentation of a massive language model HyperCLOVA X by the country’s top internet platform Naver Corp.

According to industry sources on Sunday, Samsung SDS will demonstrate business-to-business (B2B) generative AI at Real Summit 2023 in Seoul on September 12.

During the event, Samsung SDS will present its vision for generative AI to around 500 corporate clients.

Observers note that Samsung SDS’s engagement in the generative AI market is likely to boost industry competition that already involves Naver, SK telecom Co., and LG.

Mobile platform giant Kakao Corp. also plans to unveil an upgraded version of its own AI model, KoGPT 2.0, later this year.

KT Corp. is also anticipated to accelerate the release of its own hyperscale AI model, with the inauguration of the company’s new CEO, Kim Young-shub, who is expected to officially take office after an upcoming temporary shareholders meeting on Wednesday.

According to global market research firm International Data Corp., the Korean AI market is projected to grow to 4.46 trillion won ($3.36 billion) in 2027 from 2.61 trillion this year.
