Tito bunker in Konjic near Sarajevo

epa10821856 A corridor in a bunker built for former Yugolav president Josip Broz Tito and his regime near the town of Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 26 August 2023. The compound was meant as a shelter and operating headquarters for Tito and the county's ruling clique in case of a nuclear attack against the then multiethnic state of Yugoslavia. It is dug into the underground at a depth of 270 metres and was completed in 1979 - just one year ahead of Tito's death - after it was built and equipped for 26 years. According to reports, the underground building was designed for up to 350 persons to live and work for at least half a year without returning to the surface and - if restocked with supplies would still serve its purpose - the reports say.
