Samsung Electronics to apply HDR10+ Gaming technology to Nexon’s new game

“The First Descendant,” a new game published by South Korea’s gaming giant Nexon Games Co., will be the world’s first to feature HDR10+ Gaming Technology, a high-resolution standard by Samsung Electronics Co.

HDR10+ Gaming Technology is a specialized image enhancement technology tailored for gaming. It assesses scenes and frames within game content, elevating the visual depth of games.

The innovation also offers convenient features, including quicker response durations and seamless transitions into HDR mode.

The technology is defined by the variable refresh rate, which enables a computer display to adjust its refresh rate in real-time to match the refresh rate being sent via the computer’s GPU.

Samsung Electronics has added HDR10+ Gaming to its gaming display Odyssey G7 Series and newer versions, QLED 70 and 80 series with 120Hz, OLED, and Neo QLED TVs.

Nexon will carry out an open-beta test for The First Descendant equipped with Samsung‘s HDR10+ Gaming on September 19.

To broaden the scope of the HDR10+ ecosystem, Samsung Electronics founded HDR10+ Technology LLC in 2018. The entity has played a pivotal role in offering complimentary technology for HDR10+ certification, logo programs, and content development.

As many as 155 partners across the world have unveiled a total of 7,000 certified models.

“Nexon will continue its collaboration with Samsung Electronics to develop further advanced gaming display technology,” said Kim Hyun, vice president of Nexon.

“Samsung’s HDR10+ Gaming Technology will be used for the first time in commercial games,” said Yong Seok-woo, vice president of the visual display division at Samsung Electronics. “We will make further commitments to the game and content-making industries via greater collaboration with content developers.”

Samsung Electronics is set to feature a combination of its Odyssey gaming display and the First Descendant, equipped with HDR10+ Gaming Technology, at Gamescom 2023 in Cologne, Germany.
