Digital nature to theme DDP's walls at 'Seoul Light DDP 2023 Fall'

A media facade show using the outer wall of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), “Seoul Light DDP 2023 Fall,” will open from Aug. 31 to Sept. 10, the Seoul Design Foundation announced Tuesday.

The event's theme is “digital nature,” according to the foundation. All of the works that will be displayed on the wall will embody the appearance of mother nature.

French artist Miguel Chevalier, a master of digital art, is the main artist to be featured in “Seoul Light DDP 2023 Fall.” Chevalier’s “Meta-Nature AI,” which depicts images of trees and flowers throughout the four seasons and was created by artificial intelligence, will be on display.

Through “Borealis at DDP” created by a Swiss digital artist, visitors can enjoy the aurora, a celestial phenomenon that can only be seen in the Arctic Circle.

“Opposites United-Internal Journey of Communication,” produced by the Kia Global Design Center, will depict a forest under the sun or the sea at sunset.

All of the works will have an audio guide that can be accessed via QR codes throughout the DDP site.

A forum will be held on Sept. 1 where artists participating in the facade will tell the stories behind their works. Pre-registration is available on the DDP website, ddp.or.kr
