The directors and producer of the documentary “Free Chol Soo Lee” will visit Korea in September before the release of the film in the country.
The two directors, Julie Ha and Eugene Yi, producer Su Kim and Ranko Yamada will visit Korea in the first week of September and attend promotional events and press tours, according to distributor Connect Pictures on Monday.
“Free Chol Soo Lee” follows the story of Lee Chol-soo, a Korean American who was wrongfully convicted of killing a gang leader in San Francisco and sentenced to life in prison. He served 10 years behind bars before winning his freedom in 1983.
The documentary was screened at the Sundance Film Festival last year and was the runner-up for the 2021 Library of Congress Lavine Ken Burns Prize for Film.
Julie Ha worked for more than a decade as the editor in chief of the KoreAm Journal, while Eugene Yi has edited news videos for outlets such as the New York Times and Al Jazeera.
