At least 53 people were killed in the wildfires buring in Maui, which is considered the largest natural disaster in Hawaii's state history, according to a statement by Hawaii Governor Josh Green. Hundreds of buildings on the island were destroyed and thousands of people were evacuated. On 10 August, US President Biden declared Hawaii wildfires a 'major disaster' and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the affected areas.
