Yoon Do-hyun battled cancer the last three years

News of the singer, Yoon Do-hyun’s battle with cancer was released recently.

On August 10, Yoon wrote on his social media account, “I remember it was quite a hot summer, probably around the time we just started practicing for the musical Gwanghwamun Sonata in 2021,” and began his confession by adding, “I heard that I had cancer after a medical examination.”

He explained, “The exact diagnosis was a rare gastric MALT lymphoma, a type of lymphoma,” and said, “Although I heard that it was a type of cancer with pretty good treatment results, honestly, I was very surprised at the time.”

He continued and said, “The moment I heard that I had cancer, I felt like my world was falling apart.” He explained, “We decided not to tell the world about it. For crying out loud, Yoon do-hyun has cancer? It hasn’t been that long since I told my parents.” The singer also wrote, “The reason why I am telling you now is because two days ago I ended my three-years’ battle and was finally declared to be cured of cancer,” and said, “For the first time in my life, I seriously contemplated death and I cried alone, too. It was a time during which I learned many lessons.”

Yoon described the three years as long and tedious and confessed his struggles writing, “I had no idea when it would disappear or whether it would disappear at all.”

The singer said, “From experience, I deeply realized that the negative mind was more dangerous than the cancer cells, so I am sharing my story with the hope that you will overcome all things negative with a positive mind.” He asked the people not to choose fear and isolation, adding, “All you have to do is do your best to get treated and work to recover your health day after day.” He asked the people to promise not to give up.

Yoon Do-hyun attached a picture of himself in hospital robes to the post and wrote, “I took the picture on the first day of radiation therapy, hoping to post it and share the good news and hope when I got cured. I’m grateful I can post it.”

Yoon Do-hyun, the leader of the rock band, YB, remained active during his battle with cancer, appearing in various shows including the variety show, Sing Again 2 in 2021. Last year, for the first time in eleven years, he returned as a radio DJ on MBC’s Four O’clock with Yoon Do-hyun. In February, his band released the single, “Embrace,” their first “fan song” (song dedicated to fans) since debuting under the name YB.
