Hyundai Mobis has won a large order from Volkswagen to supply components critical for the German automaker's electric vehicles.
The Battery System Assembly (BSA) will be used in Volkwagen's next-generation EV platform, the Korean auto parts maker said Wednesday.
BSA refers to a complete product that combines a battery pack with the battery management system and other components, to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the battery in an electric vehicle. High-capacity and high-efficiency battery systems are crucial components that greatly influence the quality and performance of electric vehicles.
It is an "extensive order," Mobis said, though it did not specify the size.
Hyundai Mobis will build a new manufacturing facility near Volkswagen's auto factory in Spain to cover the order.
Mobis currently operates BSA factories in Korea and the Czech Republic. New facilities dedicated to EV parts are also being set up in the United States and Indonesia.
"With this recent order, Mobis has obtained a stable foundation to expand its presence in the global electric vehicle market across major regions," the company said in a statement.
