Houthi officials in press conference over dilapidated FSO Safer tanker

epa10790874 Houthis’ naval forces chief of staff, Mansour Al-Saadi speaks during a press conference about the dilapidated FSO Safer supertanker moored off Yemen's coast, in Sana'a, Yemen, 08 August 2023. Over 85 percent of 1.14 million barrels of the crude oil in the tanks of the 47-year-old dilapidated FSO Safer supertanker have been transferred to a replacement vessel, two weeks after the UN-led operation began off Yemen’s Red Sea coasts controlled by the Houthis. The transfer of crude oil from FSO Safer supertanker, stranded off Yemen’s Red Sea coast since 1988, is an operation to prevent a massive oil spill from the beleaguered vessel which has not undergone maintenance since Yemen's war broke out in 2015. It was left abandoned off the Houthis-held port of Hodeidah in the Red Sea, posing a serious risk to the environment off the coast of Yemen due to the possibility of it breaking up or catching fire.
