Actor Lee Ha-nee won the Best from the East Award at the 2023 New York Asian Film Festival, her agency Saram Entertainment announced Monday.
The New York Asian Film Festival is an annual film festival held in New York City and commemorates films made by or featuring Asians and Asian Americans.
Lee won the Best from the East Award for her performance in “Killing Romance,” where she plays a famous actor who gets married to escape the pressures of celebrity life only to find herself trapped in a suffocating relationship. “Killing Romance” was also the opening film at this year’s festival.
Along with “Killing Romance,” another film starring Lee, “Phantom,” was screened at the festival.
“It is an honor to receive this award, and I am very grateful,” Lee said in a press release. “Both ‘Killing Romance’ and ‘Phantom’ were films that were made in the midst of the hardships of the Covid-19 pandemic, and I am glad they are receiving due attention.”
The 2023 New York Asian Film Festival was held from July 14 to 30.
