Incheon International Airport Corporation's newly appointed CEO Lee Hak-jae aims to develop Incheon International Airport into a global logistics hub, infusing fresh vitality into the airport's operations.

His focus on creating a smart logistics cluster includes developing a smart cargo terminal and a Joint Distribution Center for small- and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The airport plans to integrate Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, including unmanned robots and AI, to enhance the smart cargo terminal's efficiency by 2027.

Expanding its global network is a priority for Incheon, with its cargo-dedicated routes currently connecting 107 cities across 43 countries. Incentives, including subsidies and joint marketing initiatives, will be offered to airlines to increase cargo volume.

Efforts to enhance SME logistics capabilities are also underway via the creation of a dedicated Joint Distribution Center. The center, managed by the Smart Trade Hub Consortium, will offer export-related services to e-commerce enterprises and SMEs.

Incheon Airport is also attracting specialized air cargo and logistics companies, leveraging its strategic location and competitive operating costs in the Asia-Pacific region.

Notable companies, including ASML Holding N.V. and iHerb, have already established their Global Distribution Centers at the airport. Incheon International Airport aims to continue drawing global logistics companies to its second logistics complex.

Lee is the former mayor of Incheon's Seo District and a three-term member of the 18th to 20th National Assembly.
