August 4 – 6: Rapper and producer Suga of boy band BTS is set to perform encore concerts, “SUGA | Agust D Tour ‘D-DAY’ The Final” at the KSPO Dome at Olympic Park in Songpa District, southern Seoul, from Aug. 4 to 6. The announcement followed his first solo world tour “SUGA | Agust D Tour ‘D-DAY.’”

“D-Day” is Suga’s first official solo album released on April 21 under his stage name, Agust D. “D-Day,” which concludes his Agust D trilogy, has 10 tracks including the lead track “Haegum.”

The concert will also be livestreamed via Weverse.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, at 6 p.m. on Saturday and at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets range from 165,000 won ($129) to 220,000 won.

Through Aug. 6: Broadway’s hit musical Chicago is turning 25 years old and coming to Korea for two months. The Broadway production premiered in Korea in 2003, and was performed again in 2015 and then in 2017.

People who missed those three opportunities may like to try this year and see why this show was honored with six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy.

The musical is based on a 1926 play of the same name by journalist Maurine Dallas Watkins about the actual criminals and crimes she reported on in Chicago.

The musical revolves around Roxie Hart, an ambitious chorus girl, who murders her lover.

Actor Logan Floyd plays Velma Kelly, Katie Frieden plays Roxie Hart, Jeff Brooks plays Billy Flynn and Illeana Kirven plays Matron “Mama” Morton.

Tickets range from 80,000 won to 170,000 won.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. There are no shows on Mondays.

Aug. 19 – Nov. 19:Korea’s hit musical “Rebecca” is gearing up to come back to the Blue Square in central Seoul to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Korean premiere.

The musical is based on a Gothic romance novel by Daphne du Maurier, but is reportedly also inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s 1940 film “Rebecca.”

The musical, which combines romance and suspense, first hit the stage in Vienna in 2006.

Set in a mansion called Manderley, “Rebecca” tells the story of Maxim de Winter, a wealthy widower who lost his wife Rebecca in a drowning accident and cannot get over the traumatic incident. Maxim marries another woman but his new wife learns a disturbing secret — Mrs. Danvers, the housekeeper of the mansion, still worships the late Rebecca.

When the musical was first staged in Seoul, it was the highest-selling musical for five consecutive weeks. It still attracts musical aficionados, who have already watched it multiple times.

Musical director Robert Johanson has been at the helm of the production since its premiere.

Four actors, including Min Young-ki, Ryu Jeong-han, Enok and Tei will alternate the role of Mr. de Winter, while Shin Young-sook, Lisa, Oak Joo-hyun and Jang Eun-ah will play Mrs. Danvers.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays; at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays and public holidays and at 3 p.m. on Sundays.

MOZART!Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Grand TheaterThrough Aug. 22: The growing pains of genius musician Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart unfold on the stage in the musical “Mozart!” Under the guidance of his strict yet loving father, Mozart and his sister Nannerl have performed for aristocrats since they were young, but now that he is older, Mozart grows sick of the society he belongs to. He wants to escape from reality, so he goes on a trip.

The death of his mother eventually brings him back to his former life and the musician makes up his mind to stand up against people who try to control him. The musical took home 11 prizes from various local musical award shows when it premiered in 2016.

Singer-actor Suho, a member of K-pop boy band EXO, and musical actors Lee Hae-jun, Kim Hee-jae and Yoo Hee-seung, alternate in the role of Mozart.

The musical starts at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays; and at 3 p.m. on Sundays. There are no shows on Mondays.

Tickets cost between 70,000 won to 170,000 won.

“THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING” IN CONCERTSejong Center for the Performing Arts, Grand TheaterAugust 26-27:The soundtracks for Peter Jackson’s 2001 film “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel of the same name, will be performed at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in central Seoul.

The Korea Coop Orchestra will perform the pieces under the baton of maestro Si Hong-young. Brillante Children’s Choir and NOI Opera Chorus will also take to the stage.

Scenes from the film will be played as the performers perform on stage at the Sejong Center’s Grand Theater.

The performance begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday and at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

FREUD’S LAST SESSION TOM TheaterThrough Sept. 10: The play “Last Session” by American playwright Mark St. Germain premiered its Korean production in 2020. It was staged once again last year and has returned again this year.

Set in the early days of World War II, the story is based on the fictional meeting of the great scholars, atheist Sigmund Freud and Christian C.S. Lewis. On stage, the two continue addressing their questions about religion, politics and the meaning of life in a witty and captivating way.

The play stars veteran actor Shin Gu and Nam Myeong-ryeol as psychotherapist Sigmund Freud, and Lee Sang-yoon and musical actor Kai will play theologian C.S. Lewis under director Oh Kyung-taek.

The show begins at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays; at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays and public holidays; and at 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Tickets range from 44,000 won to 66,000 won.

CHARLIE PUTHOlympic Park, KSPO DomeOctober 20 and 21: As part of an Asian tour, “The ‘Charlie’ Live Experience” concert will be making a stop at the KSPO Dome of the Olympic Park in eastern Seoul. The upcoming two-day concert in Seoul is U.S. singer-songwriter Charlie Puth’s first visit in five years.

The Berklee School of Music graduate first visited Korea in 2015 to promote his album and went on to hold two concerts, one in 2016 and most recently in 2018.

Puth is behind many hit songs such as “See You Again” (2015), “We Don’t Talk Anymore” (2016), “Attention” (2017), and “Left and Right” (2022), a song collaborated with Jungkook of boy band BTS.

Tickets range from 88,000 won to 187,000 won.
