SM Entertainment's newest boy band will debut in September under the name Riize, the K-pop agency said Monday.
Riize comes as the agency's first new act since girl group aespa debuted in 2020 and the newest boy band since NCT was rolled out in 2016.
The new band will consist of seven members "each armed with their uniqueness and strengths," according to SM Entertainment.
"The name is a mash-up of the words 'Rise,' to mean growth, and 'Realize,' meaning to make something come true, and embodies the message that it's a team that grows together and fulfills its dreams," the agency said in a press release.
The band will go for an "Emotional pop" genre, as the agency called it. The band's official Instagram account will open tonight at midnight and each member's identities will be rolled out one by one.
