Fone grow, a corporate farming project by the Pakistani Army

epa10766384 Pakistani Army soldiers patrol in the corporate farming project Fone Grow in Khanewal, Pakistan, 23 July 2023 (issued 24 July 2023). The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suspended its previous ruling on the transfer of land to the Pakistan Army for corporate farming. The Punjab caretaker government had signed an agreement to lease over 45,000 acres of land in Bhakkar, Khushab, and Sahiwal districts for the Army's Corporate Agriculture Farming (CAF) initiative. However, the LHC had halted the government's plan previously ruling that the Pakistan Army Act of 1952 does not empower the army to engage in business ventures or claim state land for corporate farming. According to the government Fone Grow, a model farm established in Khanewal, Pakistan, is set to bring about a significant transformation in the country's agriculture sector. Spread over an expansive 2,250 acres, the farm has ambitious plans to expand to one lakh acres within the next five years. With the aim of making Pakistan self-sufficient in food production, Fone Grow is a flagship project of the Green Pakistan Initiative, with the full cooperation of the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army. By leveraging modern technology, Fone Grow is able to transform barren lands into fertile fields suitable for farming. The project emphasizes corporate farming, the use of quality seeds, modern irrigation techniques, and advanced machinery to ensure profitable production. Fone Grow is aligned with the government's vision to promote modern agriculture and technological advancements, marking a significant step towards achieving food security in Pakistan.
